It all started with a lawnmowing job.

I was putting my house in Grand Rapids up for sale, and needed the lawn cut before I could list it. The day that he was supposed to do it came and went without a single blade being cut. In the weeks that followed, he gave me excuse after excuse until finally he flat out said that he could not do it.

I was a little miffed, because I kept delaying the listing while waiting for him, but was prepared to move on with my life once I got refunded. This was the first time he stopped responding to me.

It became quickly clear that he was not planning on returning the money, offering no reason or communication of any kind. I suppose he figured that the amount he stole was so small that I would just let it go eventually. He really underestimated my resolve.

After months of him ignoring me, I began informing his clients about his behavior, and this finally provoked a response out of him. It appeared at first that I had finally convinced him to return my money, but it became obvious almost immediately that he was just delaying and wasting my time. (Presumably so that I would not move forward with legal action.)

I told him that if he did not return my money, I would do everything in my power to let people know about his actions, hopefully to avoid this happening to somebody else in the future. He either didn’t believe me, or didn’t care. But if you’ve stumbled across this website, you’ll see that I was dead serious.

I honestly don’t know how many people he’s done this to, but I would imagine this is not the first time, nor will it be the last. At every turn, I attempted to be understanding, and give him every chance in the world to make this right, and he responded by either being a complete dick, or ignoring me entirely.

The question I’ll leave you with, is that if he is willing to be a straight up thief over such a small amount of money, how likely do you think it is that you could trust him about anything else?
